Tennoji is among the main stations on the Midosuji Line that have chandelier-style fixtures with fluorescent lights arranged lengthwise. By looking at the chandeliers, you can figure out which station you're at. From station to station, there are a variety of chandeliers. They are meant to match the overall design of the station complex, and some help preserve a slightly nostalgic atmosphere.
*All of the fluorescent lights in the subway are 40 watts.

North Platform/Tennoji Station

One fixture (with 6 fluorescent lights).

Center of the Platform/Shinsaibashi Station
The round, conical chandelier consists of fluorescent lights jutting out like rays. The economical design reflects the art deco feel of the station complex and is meant to match the pink-colored walls.

Eight fixtures (with 35 fluorescent lights each).

South Section of the Northbound Platform/Umeda Station
In a fixture that extends outward in three directions from the center, there are 60 fluorescent lights. The design is a spectacular combination of well-integrated straight and curved lines.

Ceiling Section above the Platform Deck/Hommachi Station
Embedded in the ceiling are fluorescent lights that spell out the name of the station, "H-O-M-M-A-C-H-I." As it is the transfer point for many office workers, the station can be quite hectic, but with something as charming as this overhead, you can't help but smile and relax.
