Fluorescent-light chandeliers hang from the high ceiling in Tennoji Station on the Midosuji subway line. The sight is so familiar that no one seems to notice them, but when you stop and try to see them anew, the retro-modern design is really quite unique. Not only is the design of the chandeliers notable - how often do you find fluorescent lights in a chandelier? -, they do an outstanding job of lighting the station. In fact, the lights have been awarded the Excellent Lighting Apparatus Prize by the Lighting Promotion Board of the National Lighting Association. With their intense illumination, the chandeliers continue to brighten up the underground.
